We had our four weeks of swim class and it was a rocky start. Actually, it was rocky the whole entire time. My child was the one that cried for the entire lesson! She had a problem with leaving the shallow waters and not being able to touch her feet on the ground.
We signed up for swim at the Geneva Park district. We already had summer pool passes and wanted to do additional lessons. I thought she would absolutely love it! Turns out I was wrong. The lessons were very routine and followed the same schedule every weekend. Sure enough once she knew what portion of the lesson was coming up, tears began rolling down.
I held my ground and stayed for the entire lesson each time. I thought the first time would be upsetting for her to get dunked, but hopefully she would get over it. Nope. Each class was a huge meltdown. She was a good sport and I finally decided -"why not dunk her because she's already crying?" So I did dunk her. A lot. Oh my I don't know what to do now. I suppose I can check into indoor swimming for the winter so it's not such a large gap till next summer. We are making progress, each class does help. Maybe next summer she'll learn to love the water a little more!
Because she let me dunk her for four weeks straight....I did take her to get some Graham's ice cream! She deserved it!
