FALLing in love with the seasons {A review of our fall events}

The sun is setting sooner. Nights are much cooler. The trees haven't started changing yet, but soon the lush green will become beautiful hues of blazing oranges, reds, and yellows. I cannot wait for that one day when the temperaure drops 15 degrees and settles there for the next 2 months. Sweaters come out. Boots and scarves are a must.
Scented candles smell like fresh baked pies and cinnamon sticks. The decor in the house consists of pumpkins, black cats, and spooky ghosts. My recipes contain pumpkin, hearty foods,  yummy spices, apple cider and other fun fall treats. The crockpot is a staple. Football is on every other day. Oh the time of year has come to nest inside with a warm fire. Leaves will be falling and soon the winter will come. This is my favorite time of year! {& what makes it just a little more special is our week long "stay-cation" filled with fun fall activities.} I didn't waste anytime getting the house ready for fall.

Nothing gets you in the mood for a season more than all the decorations!

A little trip to Kuipers kicks off the fall season! Although it was rather warm, it was nice to see all the pumpkins and fall decor. Of course we had to get the glazed apple cider donuts :)

Did I mention that my favorite Holiday is Halloween? I can't get enough of the little outfits for Isla! I can't say no to a tutu!

We had just taken a week off work to catch up on mini projects, but also to rest and relax. The week flew by & now it's Saturday night, a good night for a date night. The fall is my favorite time to eat out. The drinks are my absolute favorite- cider beer, harvest beer, wine, and fall inspired sangria. However this fall I will not be drinking since I am pregnant. Since I couldn't drink my calories, I made absolute sure I ate them and enjoyed my favorite appetizer at Fireside Grill, the Saganaki! Who doesn't love hot melted cheese on warm pieces of bread?? Opah!

So it is the last day of our little vacation and this saddens our hearts! We want to spend all the time we can with Isla before little sister gets here. We decided to take a nice walk downtown Geneva since it was a gorgeous fall day! We started the day right with pumpkin pancakes!

Who doesn't love a pumpkin pancake?!

After her nap we packed up and headed to Starbucks on 3rd and Main. We love walking downtown Geneva. Everything about the town is beautiful and quaint. It's so charming and rustic yet also high end and elegant. There is something there for everyone. I personally love Cocoon and The Little Travelor for all it's unique items. The food is amazing and everywhere you turn is a small little bistro or cafe. A horse drawn carriage walks straight down 3rd and shops have freebies to try local eats & treats.

This park is on Franklin just down from Graham's. We walked back and of course had to get ice cream. I always get my Double Dark Bitter Chocolate Chip & Justin gets his Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. Isla had bites from both :)

 Loving that Chocolate face!

It was a beautiful day and over much too quickly. Work would come too soon the following morning and our little week of lounging around, playing in the leaves, & eating yummy fall food would soon be just a great memory. I can say, however, that next weekend is scare crow fest! This gives us something else to look forward too! Stay tuned!!

Isla had a lovely photo session compliments of Auntie Jill. It was a pretty day at Hopkins park & here are some sneak peaks!

What a ham!

Isla was helping my mom prepare for their annual church bonfire. There was a smaller turn out this year however all the food was gobbled up! I guess it worked out after all with a smaller crowd. It was nice to see people from church and of course Isla was spoiled with her private hay ride compliments of my dad ("Papa").  She had fun until she fell on my mom's tile floor and gave herself one big goose egg! Poor baby!

The next day we played outside. She was feeling better and enjoyed the leaves. It was chilly and her little eyes were tearing, but you would have never known she was cold because she was having so much fun.

This is suppossed to be the number one made out of leaves to mark her age each fall, but I think it looks like a penis. Haha! Oh well, number 2 will turn out better I hope!

On October 23rd Sycamore has an annual Pumpkin Festival that is suppossed to be a rather large & historical event. Everyone gathers downtown and does early trick or treating to all the local businesses. Isla was a fuzzy little bee, but was starting to turn into a wasp when she couldn't get out of the stoller. A chocolate sucker from the confectionary was my saving grace while walking through town.

And finally Halloween was upon us. What a rainy, disappointing day. A day kids wait all year for only to have a terrible forecast and possibility of cancellation. Oh well, we made the best of our day. I made a garden gnome costume for Isla from felt pieces and a glue gun. I had a local girl make the tutu. All the hard work for her cute costume was a bust since she wore it for 5 minutes. At least I took her into work where she was adored and spoiled by my coworkers.
Since Halloween night was sadly a rainy mess, we decided to go ahead and carve pumpkins. This is the one "craft" on Halloween I just don't get into. It's such a mess! I'm sure as the girls get older it will be much more fun. We figured since there was nothing else to do, we would just keep the tradition going. Our pumpkins were very unimpressive, but at least Isla had fun!

We also celebrated Justin's 30th birthday. We had dinner on Wednesday the 30th at fireside. It was nice to see family, but the service was disappointing and Isla was a tired hot mess! The following Saturday we met up with friends in St. Charles for cocktails and appetizers at The Office. It was a great evening of chatting and catching up & of course a night out without the little one. And so October ends, but we are thrilled to celebrate November. Just one month away from meeting our little baby girl!
